The Wilks Score is a coefficient-based formula that was used for many years in powerlifting to measure a lifter's strength relative to their body weight. It answers the question: who is the stronger lifter, a 150 lb person lifting 500 lbs, or a 200 lb person lifting 600 lbs? By multiplying the total weight lifted by a coefficient based on body weight and gender, the Wilks formula provides a standardized score. Although the IPF has officially replaced it with the IPF Points system, the Wilks score is still widely known and used in many non-IPF federations and for casual comparison among lifters.
